Sometimes
a project can get quite out of hand! One Saturday afternoon, my master and I
decided to work on installing a subwoofer in the trunk of his car. Unfortunately,
what looked to be a 1-2 hour project turned into a 3 weekend project. We
started with picking up a subwoofer at a local garage sale, a small 10in one,
but the price was right. However, it did not fit the box we already had, so we
had to pick up a new box, along with a set of wires for the install. 3 hours
into the project, we had the audio cables run to the trunk, and were standing around
comically looking at the power cable, and the suspicious lack of holes to run
it through the car and into the engine. Finally, we began drilling holes in the
car (not recommended by the way) and when that didn’t help, were prepared to give
up. The next day, K came out to join us, and innocently looked up a similar car
online to see if there was anything we missed. Sure enough, she found the
location of the grommet (a small rubber hose connecting the wires from the
battery to the wiring harness inside the car) so we ran the power cable through
that. However, the sub still wouldn’t work. *sniffle*. After several more
adjustments, we found out the amp was non-operational. So it was back to the proverbial
craigslist board for a week looking for a suitable amp. We found one, along
with a free sub and box and now the setup is up and working! You’d think my
master learned his lesson, but he is now looking seriously at K’s car wondering
if all the extra parts would be enough to install a sub in her car… *hides head
under paws* Maybe I’ll go back to bunny-sitting.
